Mucormycosis and its Ayurvedic co-relation

Symptoms of rhinocerebral (sinus and brain) mucormycosis include:

  • One-sided facial swelling

  • Headache

  • Nasal or sinus congestion

  • Black lesions on nasal bridge or upper inside of mouth that quickly become more severe

  • Fever

In Ayurveda, we can compare Mucormycosis with Krimija siro roga and Raktaja pratishaya, on the basis of clinical features and etiology of Mucormycosis. 1)Krimija Siro roga nidan:- 1)Daily indulgence of eating incompatible food items 2) Excessive consumption of Tila, Kshira, Guda as well as eating even during indigestion, eating rotten food etc.

Symptom:-

1) severe pricking pain in headache 2) feeling of something cracking or being eaten up inside the head 3) Blood stained watery discharge from nose 4) mental disturbance 6) Fever, Cough, Loss of body strength 7) Dryness and swelling of face 8) closure of eye lid is also due to lassitude


2) Raktaja pratishaya nidana 1) Dusty atmosphere 2) excessive cold/ hot condition 3) Reversal of seasonal regime 4) Excessive drinking of cold water, exposure of body to dew, smoky atmosphere, suppressing the physiological calls of urine

Symptoms:- 1) Blood stained discharge from nose 2) coppery discoloration of eye 3) Features of urah kshata 4) Anosmia 5) Presence of small , smooth and white maggot in nasal cavity with characteristics of Krimija siro rog
